  1. "Colton's Map of the World on Mercator's Projection" by J.H. Colton, 1855.....$195 Hand Colored Engraving. Paper size is approx 18 1/2" x 30". A large and detailed map with elaborate border. This map also shows the routes of famous explorers. Condition: Centerfold as issued, reinforced 7" break in fold starting at bottom margin, some handling and a few spots, otherwise very good.


  2. "The World as Known to the Ancients" from Long's Classical Atlas, $35, 1869, inscribed lower left margin, "J. Bien" , approximately 10" x 13", outline color. Map is divided into Europa, Libya or Africa, Scythia, Asia, Arabia, Egypt, and India. Also shows the boundaries of the Persian Empire under Cyrus. Some long ago student has left some pencilled notations in a few places e.g. Pontius Euxinus is identified as Black Sea, Mare Erythraeum is identified as Arabian sea, etc. Centerfold as issued, some agetoning.

  3. "Histoire - Profane, Empire Des Medes, Depuis L'An 3234 Jusqu'a L'An 3468" by Buy de Mornas, 1762, $125. Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 15" x 21 1/2" . Map is approx. 9" x 9" and shows most of the Middle East. It is surrounded by historical text (in French) and an elaborate decorative border. Map shows the full extent of the Medes empire and all the Satraps as it expanded roughly between the years 768 BC and 534BC (Mornas' dates are his estimation of time from Creation onward). The text gives the chronology of their ascent up to through the rule of Cyrus the Great. Condition: Centerfold as issued.   4. "Histoire Profane, Royaume De Lydie, Depuis L'An 3286 Jusqu'a L'An 3456" by Buy de Mornas, 1762, $125. Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 15" x 21 1/2" . Map is approx. 9" x 9" and shows most of the Kingdom of Lydia -This is basically the eastern part of modern day Turkey, including part of the Black Sea and the Bosporus Straits. It is surrounded by historical text (in French) and an elaborate decorative border. Map shows all of the divisions of Lydia. The text gives the history of Lydia from 712 BC to 546BC (Mornas' dates are his estimation of time from Creation onward)and the chronology of the ascent of King Croesus. It also recounts the failed invasion of Cyrus's territory by Croesus and the subsequent conquest of Lydia by Cyrus The Great. Condition: Centerfold as issued.   5. "Suite De L'Histoire De Perse, Depuis L'An 3519 Jusqu'a L'An 3525" by Buy de Mornas, 1762, $125. Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 15" x 21 1/2" . Map is approx. 9" x 9" and shows the Persian Empire as it existed from Turkey to the Adriatic. Also shows the northern coast of Africa, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, and Italy. It is surrounded by historical text (in French) and an elaborate decorative border. Map shows all of the major divisions of the Empire. The text gives the pivotal history of this area from 481 BC to 475BC (Mornas' dates are his estimation of time from Creation onward)and recounts the great invasion by Xerxes, including his defeat of the Spartans at Thermopolae, and his great loss at Marathon.
