  1. "A Quan or Mandarin bearing a Letter from the Emperor of China" $155 by William Alexander, Published 1796. Image is 12" x 18" on paper 16 1/2" x 22 1/2" Alexander was an English artist who journeyed to China on the "Embassy from the King of Great Britain to the Emperor of China" in the late 1700's and produced a series of magnificent images which were engraved to accompany the historical account of this expedition. Alexander's images are some of the most beautiful and accurate western views of the East from this period. This is a magnificent image of a noble looking Mandarin astride a powerful horse in the Chinese countryside. Condition: An excellent impression with some browning in the upper part of the plate and foxing in the margins (heavy at paper edges). Scan shown does not include the margins, paper is a soft creamy tone, and ink color is on the sepia side of black.

  2. "Dedalo ed Icaro" Late 1700's, $75 A lovely print by Carlo Lasinio after the painting by Thommaso da S. Friano 12 1/2" x 18 1/2". Lasinio, born 1757, was the Conservator of the Gallery at Pisa and a noted engraver of works illustrative of earlier painters. This version of Dedalus & Icarus is after the painting by San Friani executed in the mid 1500's. Condition: Some light spotting in upper left and in margins, otherwise excellent condition. Note: Swirls and moires in scan were caused by scanner, actual image is clear and sharp.

  6. "The Four Quarters of the Globe" $35 1883 Engraving Approx. 11" x 13" Matted to 14" x 17". Four wonderful vignettes showing "typical" scenes from North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Condition: One small stain in upper left margin, otherwise very good.

  7. New York City: Birdseye View 1869 "New York & Environs, Drawn & Engraved for the New York Manual 1869" $275 Engraving, 12" x 16 1/2". A magnificent intricately engraved bird's eye view from over the Jersey City shore looking across at Manhattan, Governor's Island , Brooklyn & Queens, as far east as Sandy Hook, and as far north as Westchester County. The harbor is full of ships of every description and in the foreground (in Jersey City) you can see people strolling & on horse back with trains headed towards the Hudson River piers. There is also tremendous detail in Manhattan with interesting landmarks like The Battery, New York University, Central Park, and City Hall shown. Image is surrounded by an ornate border, topped by an eagle, which has text to key the major landmarks. Condition: Folds as issued, border is cropped close (as issued) at lower left, reinforced tears on one fold and in left margin, otherwise a very clean print in very good condition.

  8. Lovely 1869 New York City View: "High Bridge and High Service Works & Resrvoir" $55; Black & white lithograph; Size: 8.75" x 11.75". Narrow margins; folds as issued. Very good condition though there is a little age toning on one fold.

  9. Central Park View - Statue "The Indian Hunter" $35 1869 Chromo Lithograph; Size: 5.75" x 8.75". Condition: Very good condition though there is a little creasing in bottom margin.

  10. 1869 New York City View: "Birds Eye View of Lake Manhattan Old Reservoir Central Park" $45; Black & white lithograph; Size: 8.75" x 11.75". Narrow margins; folds as issued. Very good condition though there is creasing in left margin and a little age toning on one fold. Note: picture doesn't show margins.

  11. 1869 New York City Print: "Ruins of the Merchant's Exchange, N.Y. after the destructive Conflagration of Decbr. 16, 1835" $35; Lithograph. Size: 8.75" x 11.75". As issued: narrow margins around print; no margin on bottom left side; folds as issued. Condition: repaired tear on left side . Note: picture doesn't show margins.

  12. "Yale College" $30 Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 4" x 7". Published 1856. Condition: Light agetoning, A few smudges in side margins and crinkles in lower margin.

  13. "Three Engravings of New Haven" Sold Three lovely engravings of different views of the New Haven, Connecticut area published 1856. Paper size of each is approximately 4" x 7". Two prints are handcolored. From top to bottom they are:
    E. View of the Public Square on Green, in New Haven, Con Annotated "Drawn & Engraved by J. N. Barber." Hand colored engraving. Condition: Print is agetoned, and there is a slight variation in the toning where an original cover tissue must have been placed. Two small spots at edge of paper. Otherwise very good.
    Westville, & W.Rock in New Haven. Engraving. Condition: Print is agetoned, and there is a slight variation in the toning where an original cover tissue must have been placed. Otherwise very good.
    E. View of New Haven & Fort Hale.Handcolored engraving. Condition: Print is agetoned, and there is a slight variation in the toning where an original cover tissue must have been placed. Otherwise very good. NOTE: Scan added moire patterns and color which are not present in the sky.

  14. "View of Landing at Barrytown" 1878, $40 This is one of a series of engravings that was included in the 1878 (one of the earliest editions of the ) Atlantic Coast Pilot publication by the US Coast Survey. Barrytown is on the Hudson River just north of Kingston, New York. This print represents the actual view from the bridge of a ship navigating the Hudson River and is meant to give the navigator a clear picture of the landmarks along the way. It is printed on a vellum like paper This is a rare and beautifully executed engraving. In this view, Barrytown Landing is on the left and a view of Edgewater House is on the right. Paper size is 11 1/2" x 12 1/2" . Actual image is appx. 4" x 11" . Condition: Overall light agetoning, centerfold as issued, otherwise very good.


  15. "The Chickahominy" 1872, $35 This is a view from Picturesque America. The scene is two black men at the edge of the water--one is sitting on a log skinning(?) a racoon, while the other looks on. Size: Image is 6" x 8"; paper is 10" x 13". Condition: there is some foxing in white space around image.

  16. "The Niagara Falls" 1872, Sold This is a view from Picturesque America. Size: image is 5" x 9"; paper is 10" x 13". A nice print in very good condition.

  17. "City of Louisville, Kentucky" Engraving, 1872, $40 This is a view from Picturesque America. Image size is 5" x 9". Paper is 10" x 13". Condition: A few light brown spots in margins, otherwise very good. Picture shown does not include full margins.

  18. "City of Buffalo, New York" Engraving, 1872, $40 This is a view from Picturesque America. Image size is 5" x 9". Paper is 10" x 13". Condition: Overall foxed with some additional spots in margins. Picture shown does not include full margins.

  19. Florida " The Alcazar - St. Augustine, Florida " $55 This is a print of the architects rendering of The Alcazar -- at the bottom is written Carrere & Hastings, Architects, New York. Published in 1889. Large scale image - 13.5" x 17.75". Very good condition though there is a centerfold as issued.

  20. Paris, 1937 "Tour Eiffel et le Champ de Mars" Original Engraving by Rene Durey (1890-1959) Signed in plate, printed on Rives paper. Durey was one of the leading French artists of the day commissioned by the City of Paris in 1937 to create works for the limited edition commemorative suite "Pour La Ville de Paris". This print is # 397 of a limited edition of 500 . Size: 10.5" x 13.5". Excellent condition.

  21. "Pyramids of Egypt" H. Gavin Sc. ....SOLD from "A New Geographical and Historical Grammar" by Thomas Salmon, 1767; engraving; 5" x 8" . Condition: Overall agetoned, a few spots, and a small dampstain in lower left margin.

  22. "The Artificial Sphere" H. Gavin Sc. ....$45 from "A New Geographical and Historical Grammar" by Salmon, 1767. Appx. 5" x 8" An elaborate rendition of the celestial sphere. Condition: A few dark spots around the edges and a short repaired tear at lower left of margin.

  23. "Exact Representation of the Inhabitants of Norton Sound and of their Habitations" Published by Alex Hogg London.....SOLD Ca. 1790; engraving; paper size 9 1/4" x 15 1/2"; Condition: light foxing; narrow margin at bottom. Note: Picture does not show the full margins.

  24. "A View of Otaheite with Several Vessels belonging to that Island" Engraved for Middleton's Complete System of Geography.....$55 Ca. 1790; engraving; paper size 9" x 14". Condition: overall very good condition though there are several small tears at paper edge on upper margin and a little age toning. Note: Picture does not show the full margins.

"Capt'n Wallis on his arrival at O'Taheite, in conversation with Oberea the Queen, while her attendants are performing a favorite Dance called the Timrodee" Engraved for Millar's New Complete and Universal System of Georgraphy. Marked "Hamilton, delin".....$55 Circa 1790, Engraving; paper size 9 1/2" x 14 1/2". Condition: small area of light foxing; creases in margin which don't affect the image.   26. "The Mode of Dancing in the Island of Mietea" and "Exact Representation of a Moral or Burial Place in Otaheite" Two scenes engraved for Millar's New Complete Universal System of Geography. Marked "Page, Sculp".....$55 Engraving; circa 1790; paper size 9 1/2" x 15"; good condition though some age toning around edges & one crease which extends into image (probably put in when printed) Note: Picture does not show the full margins.

  27. "View of Resolution Bay in the Marquesas" Engraved for Baldwin's New System of Universal Geography, Marked "Peltro, Sc".....$55 Engraving; ca 1790; paper size 9 1/2" x 15 1/2". Very good condition though bottom margin is narrow. Note: Picture does not show the full margins.

  28. "Classic 18th Century Engraving after Albert Durer" .....$55 Engraving with aquatint by Conrad Martin Metz (1755-1827), an eminent engraver. Late eighteenth century; paper size 9.5" x 15.25". Very good condition though there is writing in pencil at bottom margin. Note: Picture does not show the full margins.

  29. "Outstanding 18th Century Engraving after Fra Filippo Lippi" .....$75 Engraving with aquatint by Conrad Martin Metz (1755-1827), an eminent engraver. Late eighteenth century; paper size 16.5" x 21.5". Very good condition though there is some agetoning in right margin and a small tear in right margin. Note: Picture does not show the full margins.

  30. "Pagan Rite? - 18th Century Engraving after Andrea Mantegna" .....$75 Engraving with aquatint by Conrad Martin Metz (1755-1827), an eminent engraver. Late eighteenth century; paper size 15" x 21". Condition: there is moderate foxing in bottom margin and through image (not very noticeable in image due to the dark background).   33. James McNeil Whistler "Two Portraits of Lady Meux" $35 This lovely print is a 1912 lithographic version of Whistler's "Two Portraits of Lady Meux". T. R. Way, created pastel copies of Whistler's work, then produced this lithograph. Way, was associated with Whistler, and was encouraged by Whistler to copy his works. Size: 6.5" x 8.75". Very good condition

  34. James McNeil Whistler " Sketch by Whistler" $35 This lovely print is a 1912 lithographic version of a sketch by Whistler. T. R. Way produced this lithograph.. (this is NOT an offset). Way, was associated with Whistler, and was encouraged by Whistler to copy his works. Size: 4.25" x 8". Excellent condition.

  36. "United in Brotherhood" $65. Litho by Abel Pann. 12" x 17" Signed in plate Ca. 1920. Condition: This litho is from an early folio by Pann that was printed on a very poor quality paper. Paper is embrittled and dogeared at edges with some edge tears. The main image area is intact except for a small spot above flag and some light handling creases... - Still a nice impression of an uncommon Pann image. Scan only shows most of image area.

    Abel Pann is a well respected artist in Judaica and Biblical illustration. He is known for his powerful use of lithography and for his drawings. He was born 1883 in Latvia and as a youth he lived in various parts of Eastern Europe. By 1903 he had emigrated to Paris to be a part of the great art scene of that era and this is where he first became known. He eventually settled in Israel after WWI and became a prominent figure in Israeli art. His best known work are his magnificent Biblical illustrations. He also produced some very powerful images detailing Jewish life and oppression in Eastern Europe under the Czar. Abel Pann died in 1963.

    , Wonderful engraving. Center shows height of mountains and length of rivers. Four corners have races of man. The rest of the vignettes are of scenes from around the world, showing modes of transportation and types of buildings. Paper Size: 9.5" x 12". Very good condition though there is some age toning on edges and a spot in left margin.
