  1. Ancient Greece"Carte de la Grece Ancienne et de ses Colonies" Grosselin-Delamarche.....$65 Hand Colored Engraving, 13" x 19". Beautifully colored plate from Atlas Grosselin-Delamarche. Shows the area from the Adriatic to the Black Sea and as far south as Crete. All of the Aegean Islands are clearly laid out. A very nice Classical map. Centerfold as issued, light agetoning at edges, otherwise excellent condition. Margins are not shown on scan.

  2. Classical Map of Greece "Grecia Septentrionalis cum Insulis Adjacentibus" Engraved by J. Lowry, Published by Baldwin & Cradock, 1832, $75. 10 1/2" x 16 1/2" (approx). A detailed classical map of Greece, showing the area to the north of Peloponnisos. This map adjoins the map below. Condition: Centerfold as issued, a few spots, otherwise very good.


  3. Classical Map of Peloponnisos "Peloponnesus sive Graecia Pars Meridionalis cum Insulis Adjacentibus" ; Engraved by W. Lowry, Published by J. Mawman, 1823, $75. 10 1/2" x 16 1/2" (approx). A detailed classical map of Peloponnisos and the adjacent islands. Also includes a large inset of Crete. This map adjoins the map above. Condition: Centerfold as issued, a few spots, scattered foxing, otherwise good.

  4. Ancient Greece"Greece, Crete, and the Archipelago" Ca. 1907. The London Geographical Society. $35 A beautiful and detailed color map of Greece. 15 1/2" x 20 1/2" . Centerfold as issued, otherwise excellent. Please note: Picture doesn't show margins; moire patterns in picture are a function of the scanner and do not appear on the actual map.

  5. "Greece" , 1808, Published by C. Smith, $195. 12 1/2" x 15 1/2", Hand colored engraving. A very detailed map on a large scale. Includes "Criti or I. of Candia", Morea, Cefalonia, all of the Greek Peninsula & Isles, and the Turkish coast all the way to the Dardenalles. Condition: Some agetoning, several spots along edges of map and a few in the image area, otherwise very good.

  6. "Southern Part of Greece and Candia" 1829, Baldwin & Cradock, $95. appx. 13 1/2" x 16", Outline color. Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." A nice plate from the SDUK series on Turkish territory (this is labelled "Turkey III"). This map details the area south of the Gulf of Patras including the Peloponissos (labelled "Morea"), the Aegean Archipelago, and the island of Crete. Also includes an engraved view of the Acropolis of Athens. Note: Scan does not show margins. Condition: Light agetoning, a few minor spots, otherwise very good.

  7. "Greece" Drawn & engraved by John Dower, $85. circa 1840's, 9" x 11", hand colored in outline. Shows political subdivisions and numerous cities, towns, rivers, topography, and islands. Major divisions include Morea, Livadia, Egrippo, & Negropont. There is a small inset of Corfu at lower left. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoning, a few minor spots.

  8. "Plan of the Antiquities of Athens" 1833, Published for J. Mawman, $55. Image appx. 8 1/2" x 11 1/2". Engraved "...from Lieut. Col. Leake's Topography of Athens." A detailed engraving showing the area from Mt. Ancliesmus to Museium, including the Acropolis, Temple of Jupiter, Agora, and outlines of the "Ancient" Walls and "Modern" Walls. CLICK HERE for a detail of the Western part of the map. Condition: Heavy foxing.

  9. "Turkey in Asia" , 1846 , by J. Gellatly for W & R Chambers , $85. Engraving with outline color, 9" x 11 1/2". Interesting map showing the area from Cairo in Egypt to Constantinople, extending as far East as Persia. Palestine in shown as within Syria, with the other major map divisions being, Anatolia, Karamania, Roum, Armenia, Algesira, Kurdistan, and Irak Arab. Condition: Light agetoning and a few small spots, otherwsie good. Note: Scan does not show full margins.

  10. "Turkey in Asia " by G. Aikman, 1854, $110 , Published by A & C Black, handcolored engraving. 12" x 17" . Detailed map on a nice scale, showing the area from the Mouths of the Nile to the Dardanelles and Constantinople and extending as far East as Persia. Also includes an inset detail of the "Ruins of Babylon". Annotated are cities, numerous towns and villages, topographical detail, the various existing routes and roads. Condition: Agetoned along edges of paper, a few spots, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  11. Paradise and the Land of Canaan"Descriptio Paradisi, et Terrae Canaan, Regionumque a Patriarchis Primum Habitatarum" published by Franciscus Halma, 1709, $250 Engraving, 10" x 14 1/2". A very good impression of this map. Shows the Mediterranean coast from Antioch to the Nile Delta and includes a nice representation of Cyprus. Map extends eastward past Babylon all the way to Media and Nod. Other interesting features are the representation of Eden just to the east of Babylon (and if you look very carefully you will see two figures standing under a tree), the location of Mount Ararat, the location of Nineveh, the location of Padan Aram and the path that Jacob took when fleeing Laban and returning to Bethel. Condition: Folds as issued, light agetoning, otherwise very good.

  12. Ornate Holy Land Map During the Reign of King Ahaz"Histoire - Sainte Depuis L'An 3253 jusqu'a L'An 3290 " by Buy de Mornas, 1762, $125 . Hand colored engraving, 15" x 21 1/2". The area included is from the Red Sea in the South (with Mt. Sinai designated) to Syria and Mesopotamia in the North. The eastern end of Cyprus is also shown This map shows the Kingdom of Judah and the nations surrounding it at the pivotal time of the reign of King Ahaz (735-720 BCE). This was the time frame leading up to the Assyrian invasion by Sennacherib and the subjugation of Judah. The map is surrounded by detailed text (in French) describing the historical events of this period from "3253 to 3290". (Mornas dated his maps from his estimate of the date of the creation of the universe.) There are also wonderful ornate borders. Condition: Centerfold as issued, light brownspotting and some smudging of ink, otherwise good. Paper is in very good condition. Note: Scan crops margins and the lower part of the map.


  13. "Palestine" Drawn & engraved by John Dower, $85. circa 1840's, 9" x 11", hand colored in outline. Has both ancient and modern place names and delineates the borders of the original 12 tribes. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoning, a few minor spots.

  14. "Palestine", Drawn & Engraved by W.H. Lizars, ca. 1845, $150. Hand colored engraving with elaborate scrollwork border. Paper size is approx. 12" X 14 1/2" with the actual map dimensions being approx. 7 3/4" X 9 1/2". A decorative map engraved for Lizars School Atlas with Palestine separated into its biblical divisions by tribe. It also annotates cities of refuge, royal cities, and Levitical cities. Condition: Some agetoning and handling, some chipping along right edge of margin, otherwise very good.

  15. "Palestine According to its Ancient Divisions" by W. Hughes, 1854, $95 , Published by A & C Black, handcolored engraving. 12" x 17" . Detailed map on a nice scale showing cities, towns, roads, and routes. Has both ancient and modern place names and delineates the borders of the original 12 tribes. At lower right is an inset with a detail of the Sinai Penisula, showing the route of the Israelites. Condition: Agetoned along edges of paper, a few spots, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  16. "A New Map of Palestine or the Holy Land" by Augustus Mitchell, $125. 1860, 12 1/2" x 15", hand colored engraving with decorative border. Has both ancient and modern place names and delineates the borders of the original 12 tribes. Map extends to beyond Damascus in the northeast. At lower right there is a nice inset of "Modern Jerusalem." Condition: A few minor spots in margins, otherwise very good.

  17. "Johnsons Palestine" by Johnson & Ward, $125. 1862, 14" x 18", hand colored engraving with decorative border. Has both ancient and modern place names and delineates the borders of the original 12 tribes. Map has vignette of Damascus in upper left corner and a small inset of Jerusalenm at lower right. Condition: A few minor spots, otherwise very good. Scan shown crops borders and margins.

  18. "Palestine" , 1846 , by J. Gellatly for W & R Chambers , $85. Engraving with outline color, 9" x 11 1/2". Primarily delineates the borders of the Tribes of Israel. Condition: Light agetoning, a few spots, otherwise good. Note: Scan does not show full margins.

  19. "Modern Palestine, The Suez Canal, & Sinai Peninsula" Harmsworth $35 circa 1907. 16" x 21". This is actually two maps on one sheet. The left half shows Palestine with a small inset delineating the ancient divisions of the Twelve Tribes. The right half shows the area from Jaffa to the Suez Gulf and Gulf of Akabah and has insets of the Suez Canal, Port Said, and Suez. These are beautifully engraved and colored maps. Condition: Centerfold as issued, otherwise excellent. NOTE: Picture shown is a partial scan of the Palestine map on the left half of the sheet.

  20. "Turky in Asia" from "A New Geographical and Historical Grammar" by Thomas Salmon, 1767, $95 Engraving by T. Phinn. Measures 8" x10" and has a stylized cartouche in the lower left corner. This is an English map showing the Middle East from the Western Mediterranean through Persia as far south as the Persian Gulf and as far north as the Caspian Sea. Has some interesting details, including the location of the ruins of Babel and the course of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Map is age toned and has original folds

  21. "Turkey in Asia" , 1808, Published by C. Smith, $175. 12 1/2" x 15 1/2", Hand colored engraving. A very interesting map on a large scale. This map has a boundary line delineating the border between Asia and Europe and divides out the provinces on the Asian side. Most of the modern "Middle East" from Antioch to Gaza is labeled Syria and is bordered to the North and East by Algezira. At the Eastern Edge are Armenia, Kurdistan, and Irak Arabi. Condition: Some agetoning, several spots along edges of map, otherwise very good.

  22. "Turkey in Asia" Drawn & engraved by John Dower, $85. circa 1840's, 9" x 11", hand colored in outline. Shows the area from the Sea of Marmora to Persia and delineates Anadolia, Roum, Karamania, Cyprus, Syria, Armenia, Algezira, Koudistan, and IrakArabi. National political subdivisions, numerous cities, rivers, topography and other details shown. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoning, browning and a few spots.

  23. "Syria" 1843, Chapman & Hall, $85. appx. 13 1/2" x 16", Outline color. Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." This map shows the Mediterranean coast from Gaza to the Gulf of Iskenderun and divides Syria into "the usual five divisions under the Turkish government", Aleppo, Damascus, Tripoli, Acre, and Gaza. Map also has an inset at lower right with a detailed look of the Sinai Peninsula. Note: Scan does not show margins. Condition: Light agetoning, an old, small,ink spot at upper left edge, a few chips alonr upper edge of margin, a crease down part of right side, otherwise very good.

  24. "Persia & Afghanistan " by S. Hall, 1854, $95 , Published by A & C Black, handcolored engraving. 12" x 17" . Detailed map on a nice scale, showing the area from the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers in the West to the Indus River in the East. Annotated are cities, numerous towns and villages, topographical detail, the various existing routes and roads. Condition: Agetoned along edges of paper, a few spots, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  25. "Persia with Part of the Ottoman Empire" by G. Long, M.A., 1831 $85. "Published Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge" Engraved by J. & C. Walker. 13 1/2" x 16 1/2". A wonderful map of the Iraq/Iran area. At the western edge is the River Euphrates flowing through "Irak" and into the Persian Gulf with the "Bahrein" coast shown as far south as the Quatar peninsula and Oman. Continues as far east as the eastern border of Iran (labelled "Khorassan"). There are many interesting annotations on the map (e.g. "36 days jouney from Yezd to Dooshak for a loaded camel") and much other detail. Condition: Some agetoning and some light spotting, one brown spot that looks like a drip of a coffee, otherwise very good condition. Note: Scan does not show margins of map.

  26. " A Map of Ancient Egypt from Celarius" Salmon, 1767, $95 9" x 11". A classic map on a Ptolomian projection of Ancient Egypt. Celarius was a 17th Century mapmaker who was known for his works dealing with the ancient world. This map traces the Nile from the Delta southward. Map is age toned, with a few dark spots, folds as isssued, repaired tears at top and bottom margins.

  27. "Egypte, Nubie Et Abissine" M. Bonne, $110. Shows the southeastern corner of the Mediterranean as far north as Beirut and sweeps southward to show the titled countries, the Red Sea, and the Nile River. Copper engraving, ca. 1788. Paper size is approx, 11" x17", with plate size approx. 9 3/4" x 14". Folds as issued. A few spots in the margins, otherwise very good condition.
