  1. Norfolk County, England ; Jan Jansson.....$350 "Nortfolcia Vernaculae Norfolke", Hand colored engraving; 17" x 21" paper size; ca. 1652. A nice period county map of Norfolk. Lovely title cartouche in the upper right, with another nice vignette at lower left incorporating cattle, sheep, and shepherds around the scale of miles. The upper left has an illustration of the heraldic shields of the nobility of Norfolk. The map is very detailed with all local boundaries, castles, and topographical details. off the coast, the sea is adorned with a sea monster and sailing ships. Age toned; laid down on board.


  2. "Yarmouth and the Sands About It" ; Capt. Greenville Collins.....$375; ca. 1695. Hand colored engraving; 20" x 23 1/2" paper size. Lovely title cartouche incorporating fisherman, nets, and mermaids. This chart is "Most Humbly Presented and Dedicated To His Grace, Henry Duke of Norfolk." A very fine example of the chartmaking of this famous early hydrographer. Collins was commissioned by King Charles II of England to chart the coast of the British Isles. This chart shows the coast in the vicinity of Yarmouth, the approaches to the harbor, and the numerous shoals. Scale is approximately 1 mile to an inch. Rhumb lines, soundings and the location of all landmark castles and churches are shown. Chart is on a heavy laid paper and is beautifully hand colored. Condition: Centerfold as issued, overall light soiling, a few spots and dings in image area, paper is in very good condition, overall very good.

  3. "Map of the Navigable Canals and Rivers in England & Wales" ; Engraved by J. Lowry, published by J. Mawman, 1825, $150. 16 1/2" x 21" (approx). An unusual 4 sheet map of England & Wales emphasizing the navigable waterways and rairoads. This map consists of 4 separate adjoining plates that have been laid on linen (or possibly muslin). At upper left is an inset showing "Canals in the South of Scotland" including the Forth & Clyde Canal and the Glasgow & Saltcoats Canal. At upper right is an inset showing the Caledonian Canal in Scotland. At lower right is an inset of the Canals in the Environs of London. At the bottom of the map is a large diagram of a "Section of the Canals", "Showing a line of Navigation communicating between London and Liverpool, by a route of 264 miles; with the different canals branching therefrom their united routes amounting to about 1,150 miles, the whole forming 1400 miles of Navigation by Canals. Condition: Folds along joints of plates, scattered foxing, some handling, otherwise good. Note: Green & red moire patterns and grey moire patterns in shaded areas in scans were caused by scanner.

  4. "Britannia by Long, 1869, $40 Size: Approx. 10" x 13" Hand colored map showing Britain -- exact time frame unknown, but this is a plate from a famous classical atlas that illustrated much of the Roman Empire. Britain is divided into Britannia Prima, Britannia Secunda, Flavia Caesariensis, and Maxima Caesariensis. Condition: Centerfold as issued with a little toning along fold, otherwise good.

  5. "England & Wales"1846 $75 Engraving with Outline Color. Engraved by J. Gellatly, Published by W & R Chambers. Size is approximately 9" x 11". A nice map showing the county boundaries and extending as far as southern Scotland. Includes the Isle of Man and part of eastern Ireland. Condition: Some agetoning and foxing (heavier at edges), short reinforced tear at lower left of margin (does not affect image), otherwise good.

  6. "North & South Wales" by J. Bartholomew, 1854, $145 , Published by A & C Black, handcolored engraving. 17" x 24" . Large detailed map on a nice scale showing cities, towns, carriage roads, crossroads, coach roads, railways, and topographical details. Includes coastal details along Bristol Channel, Swansea, Caermarten, St. Brides, Cardigan, and Caernarvon Bays and the Irish Sea. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoned along edges of paper, a few spots and other toning, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  7. "Ireland" , 1854, Hand Colored Engraving by S.Hall , $150. Published by A & C Black. 17" x 23 1/4" . A large scale map showing the counties, numerous cities, towns, rivers, railroads, coach roads and steamship routes. Condition: Centerfold as issued, some soiling and agetoning in margins and some light foxing along fold. Note: Scan does not show borders or margins.

  8. "Ireland" Drawn & engraved by John Dower, $75. circa 1840's, 9" x 11", hand colored in outline. Shows county divisions, numerous cities, towns, rivers, and topography. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoning, reinforced splits on fold at edges of margin.

  9. "Ireland" 1838, J. & C. Walker, $115. appx. 13 1/2" x 19 1/2", Outline color. Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." This is one of the larger SDUK maps and gives a very detailed look at Ireland. It outlines all of the major divisions and shows roads, towns, cities, castles, hills, mountains,lakes, and rivers. At the lower right is a statistical table giving the area and population of each county within the major divisions and the surface areas of the lakes. Condition: Fold at right as issued, agetoning, margin is cropped to border at upper right (probably as issued to facilitate folding), handling creases at right side and there is a short tear at upper right that just crosses border into Kildare County. Note: Borders and margins are not shown in scan.


  10. "A New Map of Scotland from the latest observations" by John Senex, $95, 1733, approx. 7" x 8". Shows numerous cities and towns and includes the Hebrides Islands. Condition: Light agetoning and offsetting, folds as issued, otherwise very good.

  11. "Scotland" 1841, J. & C. Walker, $95. appx. 13 1/2" x 16", Outline color. Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." Map shows all of Scotland including the Hebrides (Western Isles) and islands of Skye, Coll, Mull, Isla, Jura, and the Argyle peninsula. Shows the major political divisions and details with roads, towns, cities, castles, hills, mountains,lakes, and rivers. Condition:Agetoning, margin is a little rough at edges of bottom and right side. Note: Borders and margins are not shown in scan.

  12. "Northern Scotland" --Perth to Caithness, 1834, Baldwin & Cradock, $95. appx. 13 1/2" x 16", Outline color. Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." A nice view of northern Scotland including the islands of Skye, Rum, and Coll on the western side and the "Moray or Murray Frith" on the eastern side. Shows the major political divisions and details with roads, towns, cities, castles, hills, mountains,lakes, and rivers. Condition:Agetoning, some spotting, otherwise good. Note: Borders and margins are not shown in scan.

  13. "Scotland III, Orkneys, Shetlands, and Hebrides" , 1834, Baldwin & Cradock, $75. appx. 13 1/2" x 16", Outline color. Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." Left half of sheet shows from Skye to the Hebrides. The Hebrides are shown from the Butt of Lewis to the Barra Isles. The right half of the sheet shows from the coast of Caithness northward including the Orkneys (annotated "29 inhabited Islands") and the Shetlands (annotated "32 inhabited Islands") Shows the topography, harbors, and towns. Condition:Agetoning, there are two stains on the map that look like they were were caused by spills, otherwise good. Note: Borders and margins are not shown in scan.

  14. "The Environs of Edinburgh", 1833, Chapman & Hall, $95. appx. 13 1/2" x 16", Marked "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." A tremendously detailed map on a scale of 3/4" = 1 mile. Shows the coast of the Firth of Forth, the city plan of Edinburgh, all roads, canals, castles, and estates as far Peebles and Muirfot Hills. Condition: Agetoned, otherwise good. Note: Borders and margins are not shown in scan.

  15. "Scotland 1885 $35 10" x 13" . Fairly detailed map showing major towns, railroad lines, topographical details, and heights of mountains. Includes a small inset of the Shetland and Orkney Islands. Condition: Agetoned, some smudges in margins and one small scuff in Forfar County, centerfold as issued, otherwise very good
