Size is 16 1/2" x 18 1/4". An unusual perspective with much interesting detail. This map includes the South Pole, some of South America, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Borneo, Sumatra, Malacca, and all of the island groups in the Southern Pacific Ocean. There is no representation of any part Antarctica. Inscribed below the hemisphere:   "In this projection the Eye is situated 68/100 of the radius distant from the surface of the sphere, it being the point very nearly whence equal portions of the spherical surface will be projected with the greatest equality on the plane --This has been generally called the globular projection and was first recommended by De La Hire and afterwards by various Foreign and English Mathematicians, particularly by Mr. P. Nicholson, but owing to various difficulties in drawing the curves, it has not before been executed except in the common case where the Poles are in the Circumference and the Meridians and Parallels improperly made circular." Condition: Folds as issued, overall foxed, but no tears and paper is sound. A good, clear impression of this engraving.
