  1. Ca. 1788 Map of Southeastern US from the Rio Grande to Florida. ("L'Ancien et Le Nouveau Mexique, avec La Floride et la Basse Louisiane Partie Orientale") by M Bonne $300,A collectible and interesting 18th Century map of the area surrounding the Gulf of Mexico. This map starts out in the Bahamas, shows the US east coast from the tip of Florida to Charleston, S.C. and includes most of Cuba. The Gulf coast is shown in great detail and the Mississippi river is traced as far north as the junction with the Ohio River (roughly Kentucky.) There is also great detail of Eastern Texas southward through Mexico all the way to Panama. Rivers, towns, and Indian tribes are annotated. This is a fascinating map. Copper engraving, ca. 1788. Paper size is approx. 11" x17", with plate size approx. 9 3/4" x 14". A sharp impression in excellent condition though there are two small spots near title and two tiny spots in margin.

  2. Huge Map   "Map of the Basin of the St. Lawrence Showing Also the Natural and Artificial Routes Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Interior of North America by Thomas C. Keefer for I. D. Andrews Report to Hon. Thomas Corwin, Secretary of Treasury, 1853", $195 , measures 36 1/2" x 75 1/2". Because of its size and fragility we have not scanned it, but, upon request, we will scan a section of it for you. This map shows Canada from Newfoundland , across the Great Lakes as far west as the border with Minnesota and follows the Mississippi as far south as southern Missouri. Map particularly illustrates the US/Canada border and details all of the waterways reaching into the interior of the US. Condition:Folds as issued with some additional creasing. Some separation and darkening at folds with a small amount of paper loss at a few fold intersections.

  3. North East US, 1848, "Map of the Eastern and Middle States &c. and also the British Provinces" engraved to accompany Appletons' Hand Book of American Travel", $150. Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 12" x 16". This is a great period example of a practical travel map of the mid 19th Century. All major highways, railroad routes, and water routes, and the towns that they passed through are shown. This map includes all of the Eastern states from Maine to Maryland and adjoining parts of Ohio and Virginia. It also shows Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the area north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario (which is divided into "Canada East" and Canada West"). There are also two very interesting insets. One is titled "Falls Of Niagara" and is a wonderfully detailed map showing the streets of Niagara Falls, NY, annotations on the various rapids and falls, railroad connections on both the US and Canadian sides, and a note about the suspension bridge below the Falls. The other inset is titled "Land and Water Routes from Cleveland to Detroit & Chicago" and is centered on Michigan with parts of the adjoining states and coast of the adjoining Great Lakes. Lower margin annotated "Drawn & Engd W. Williams, Phila." Good condition though there is some age toning along edges, folds as issued with slight paper loss and browning along one section of fold running through Maryland.

  4. "New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, & Connecticut" by S. Hall, $155 , Published by A & C Black, 1854, handcolored engraving. 17" x 24" . A wonderful large scale, period map of these states, with each county delineated. Map also shows rivers and roads. Includes nice inset of the City of New York. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoned along edges of paper (not near image), a few spots, short break at fold in lower margin, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  5. Early 1800's Northeast "Carte Des Provinces Septles des Etats Unis",$325 . Published 1812-13 by J. Dentu,Paris. 12 3/4" x 19 1/2" plate on 15 1/2" x 21" paper. A nicely engraved map showing the coast from Delaware Bay to Passamaquoddy, Maine and extending westward to Lake Erie with lots of topographical detail and all major cities, towns, rivers, and the roads between them. Folds as issued, trimmed to neatline at bottom right as issued, with a few repaired marginal tears (one of which extended slightly into image area), otherwise excellent condition.

  6. "Southern and South-Western States", 1849, published by Appletons, engraved by Williams, $195. Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 13" x 18". Very detailed. This is a great period example of a practical travel map of the mid 19th Century. All major highways, railroad routes, and water routes, and the towns that they passed through are shown. A very interesting feature is the dual longitude marking. The top of the map is annotated in longitude west of Greenwich, while the bottom of the map is annotated in longitude west of Washington, D.C. This map shows all of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, most of Florida, and parts of adjoining states. Another interesting feature is the representaion of the Mississippi Delta. It also has two nice insets - one of Texas and one of Eastern Virginia. Very good condition though there is some age toning along edges, folds as issued, and a repaired tear on left margin.
