  1. Australia  "Perspective Projection of the Southern Hemisphere on the Plane of the Horizon of London." Projected, Drawn, and Engraved by Joseph Lowry, published by J. Mawman, London in 1824, $95, Engraving. Size is 16 1/2" x 18 1/4". An unusual perspective with much interesting detail. This map includes the South Pole, some of South America, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Borneo, Sumatra, Malacca, and all of the island groups in the Southern Pacific Ocean. There is no representation of any part Antarctica. Inscribed below the hemisphere:   "In this projection the Eye is situated 68/100 of the radius distant from the surface of the sphere, it being the point very nearly whence equal portions of the spherical surface will be projected with the greatest equality on the plane --This has been generally called the globular projection and was first recommended by De La Hire and afterwards by various Foreign and English Mathematicians, particularly by Mr. P. Nicholson, but owing to various difficulties in drawing the curves, it has not before been executed except in the common case where the Poles are in the Circumference and the Meridians and Parallels improperly made circular." Condition: Folds as issued, overall foxed, but no tears and paper is sound. A good, clear impression of this engraving.


  2. "Australia" by J. Bartholomew, 1854, $110. Size: 17" x 24" (approx). Hand colored engraving published by A & C Black. Fairly detailed along coast and in New South Wales, and Victoria; but much of the rest of the interior is empty. Australia is divided into New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, North Australia, and Western Australia. There is an inset at lower center of Van Dieman's Land showing its divisions. Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoned at edges, reinforced split at edge of lower margin, a few spots, otherwise good. Full margins not shown on scan.

  3. "Johnsons Australia " by A.J. Johnson , $95, 1865, 14" x 18" (approx). Hand colored engraving. Lovely mid 19th Century map of the Australia with decorative border. Delineates states, counties, cities, towns and villages, and rivers. Condition agetoned at edges, a few short reinforced tears in margins (does not affect image), otherwise good. Full margins not shown on scan.

  4. "New South Wales" "From the M.S. in the Colonial Office, the Surveys of the Austral'n Agrcult. Company, and the Routes of Allan Cunningham." 1833 $85. . Engraving with outline color. Published by Baldwin & Cradock, Engraved by J.&C. Walker "Published under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." A very nice map of this part of Australia, showing all of the regions with great topographical detail along with towns, cities, rivers, and major roads. Also includes a nice inset of Sydney. Scan does not show margins of map. Condition: Some agetoning. Edge of right margin is a bit rough but this does not affect the image area. Overall very good.


  5. "Victoria" by J. Bartholomew, 1854, $95 , Published by A & C Black, handcolored engraving. 12" x 17" . Victoria map on a nice scale, highlighting the Gold Districts and including much other detail. Inset at upper left gives an enlarged view of the Mount Alexander Gold District. Condition: Agetoned along edges of paper, a few spots, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  6. "Australia in 1839" 1840, Engraved by J.& C. Walker, $95. "Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge". Engraving with outline color, 13 1/2" x 16 1/2" . An interesting map of Australia and Van Diemen Land. Most details are along the coast lines. Each colony is outlined and marked with its date of establishment and the names of explorers and the area that they explored are also delineated. There are also population figures for each colony. Condition: Some agetoning, but overall very good. Note: Scan does not show margins or borders.

  7. "The Islands of New Zealand" ,1838, $125. Engraved by J.&C. Walker, published by Baldwin & Cradock, 1838, size 13 1/2" x 16", Outline Color, " Published Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." A great map of New Zealand with much detail along the coast from Stewart Island to the North Cape and nice topographic detail of the interior. Condition: Some agetoning in margins, two corners chipped (does not affect image, but overall very good. Note: Scan does not show margins or borders.

  8. "Tasmania or Van Diemen's Land", Published by George Phillip & Son, 1856, $125. Hand colored engraving. Paper size is approx. 10" x 13". A very nice map of Tasmania, showing counties, towns, coastal landmarks and harbors. There is an indexed key designating 36 "Hundreds or Parishes". Map also shows as far north as Kent's Groups and the Furneaux Islands Condition: Agetoning in margins, a few spots, otherwise very good.

  9. "Van Dieman's Land" Drawn & engraved by John Dower, $110. circa 1840's, 9" x 11", hand colored in outline, scale is 1" = 30 English Statute Miles. An unusual and nicely drawn map of 19th Century Tasmania with political subdivisions, cities, towns, islands, and rivers with much detail on the north and east coasts. There are also interesting annotations, including one which says, "The estimated average importation of Convicts into Van Dieman's Land is 1,709 per annum." Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoning, browning and a few spots in margins, otherwise very good.
