  1. "Africa", 1815, $85, published by Guthrie. Engraving. Paper size is approx. 8 1/4" x 10 1/2". Agetoning, fold as issued, some dampstaining, some bowning in margins.


  2. "Africa", Drawn & Engraved by W.H. Lizars, ca. 1845, $175. Hand colored engraving with elaborate scrollwork border. Paper size is approx. 12" X 14 1/2" with the actual map dimensions being approx. 7 3/4" X 9 1/2". A decorative map engraved for Lizars School Atlas. For a detail, CLICK HERE. Condition: Some agetoning and handling, otherwise very good.

  3. "Africa" , 1854, Hand Colored Engraving by S.Hall , $110. Published by A & C Black. 12" x 17" . Map shows political subdivisions (mostly along the coast), various cities, towns, rivers, roads, and some of the tracks of expeditions to the interior. The Nile is traced to its source in the "Mts of the Moon" (near Kenya). There are also insets of the Island of Madeira of the Port of Aden. Interesting map. Condition: Overall agetoned (darker at edges), some foxing and soiling, there are a few red highlighted sections of borders in northern Africa. Note: Scan does not show full margins.

  4. "South Africa" by J. Bartholomew, 1854, $145. Size: 17" x 24" (approx). Hand colored engraving published by A & C Black. Very detailed map of this region. Includes a nice representation of the the Orange River Sovereignty and its divisions. At upper part of map is an inset titled, " Continuation of Africa South of the Equator". Condition: Centerfold as issued, agetoned at edges, some offsetting, a few spots, otherwise good. Full margins not shown on scan.

  5. "Egypt and Arab Petrea" 1854, $95 , Published by A & C Black, handcolored engraving. 12" x 17" . Detailed map on a nice scale, showing cities, numerous towns and villages, topographical detail, the various existing routes and roads - including the routes to Mecca. The route between Cairo and Suez is annotated (in part), "The distance between Cairo and Suez is approximately 84 miles, which is divided into 16 stages. The carriages used in the transit have two wheels with seats on each side... The journey occupies about 22 hours." Map includes most of the Red Sea, Gulf of Suez, and Gulf of Akaba. Palestine is shown as far north as Joppa. At lower left are small insets detailing the Ruins of Petra, the Pyramids of of Gizeh, and the Ruins of Thebes. Condition: Agetoned along edges of paper, a few spots, otherwise very good. Scan does not show full margins.

  6. " A Map of Ancient Egypt from Celarius" Salmon, 1767, $95 9" x 11". A classic map on a Ptolomian projection of Ancient Egypt. Celarius was a 17th Century mapmaker who was known for his works dealing with the ancient world. This map traces the Nile from the Delta southward. Map is age toned, with a few dark spots, folds as isssued, repaired tears at top and bottom margins.

  7. "Egypte, Nubie Et Abissine" M. Bonne, $110. Shows the southeastern corner of the Mediterranean as far north as Beirut and sweeps southward to show the titled countries, the Red Sea, and the Nile River. Copper engraving, ca. 1788. Paper size is approx, 11" x17", with plate size approx. 9 3/4" x 14". Folds as issued. A few spots in the margins, otherwise very good condition.

  8. Egypt - Mouth of the Nile "Bouches Du Nil", Buy de Mornas, 1762, $145. 15" x 22" paper size, map is 10.25" x 10.25". A beautifully engraved map of the mouths of the Nile and the Nile Delta surrounded by detailed text with ornate borders, Text includes descriptions (in French) of "Usages, Sciences, Arts, et Monuments de L'Egypte" (customs, arts, science, and monuments). Map has wonderful illustrations of pyramids, an obelisk, and what appears to be a mummy. Centerfold as issued, Wash color in Mediterranean. Very good condition. Note: Scan crops the margins and lower part of the map. Click here for a detail.

  9. Morocco "North Africa or Barbary -- Marocco", by Baldwin & Cradock, 1836, $95. size 13 1/2" x 16", Outline Color, " Published Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." Very detailed map which also locates various tribes of Bedouins and Arabs and identifies them by name.. Includes a beautiful inset of the "Plan of the City of Marocco" which identifies all of the gates and mosques in the city. Condition: Some agetoning in margins, but overall very good. Note: Scan does not show margins or borders.

  10. Algeria "North Africa or Barbary II - Algier" , $95. by Baldwin & Cradock, 1834, size 13 1/2" x 16", Outline Color, " Published Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge." A very detailed map of the area west of the Tunisian border all the way to Morocco. Annotated, "There are no real roads, the lines indicate the usual tracks." Includes topographical details, locations of wells and fountains, principal tribes, and known details about the Sahara with the "Melgig Salt Marsh" at lower right. Inset at lower left shows the western edge of Algeria. Condition: Some agetoning, but overall very good. Note: Scan does not show margins or borders.


  11. Algeria "Algerie" ca. 1870, $65. Hand Colored Engraving, 13" x 19". Beautifully colored plate from Atlas Grosselin-Delamarche. A large and detailed map of Algeria showing topographical relief, lakes, rivers, and French military outposts. This map is the largest part of a "Colonies Francaises" plate which also has small insets for other French colonies around the world. Centerfold as issued, light agetoning at edges, otherwise excellent condition. Margins are not shown on scan.
